KGA Office

Our own Studio is in the eastern Brisbane suburb of Bulimba in the lower level of a house that had been converted to commercial space.  It was, let’s say, a ‘robust’ space that had been used as a gym, beehive manufacturing facility amongst various eclectic lives in the past.

We were aiming to create a passive and calming space to work that reflects the ambitions we have for our clients projects.  We also recognise that commercial fitouts can have relatively brief lifespans (particularly in this building which is likely to be demolished at some point), so ensured that any major resources we invested into the space could be removed or re-purposed rather than discarded.

Desks from our previous premises were upcycled into a stand-alone workstation utilising spotted gum plywood (a material we regularly use) – the unit conceals all cabling and holds Tolomeo lamps which can all be removed without any base building work.  Loose furniture completes the furnishing which can be moved into a domestic setting if required to extend their life.

Base building work included installing an acoustic ceiling, ceiling fans, solar panels,  sealing the existing floor, and installing some hardwood trims.  We designed and installed new timber windows and doors to allow a passive ventilation and show a variety of details and conditions that re-occur in our residential work.
